An online seminar on the Blue Tongue Virus for island-based livestock keepers is scheduled for next Monday (October 19).
The SAC Consulting Highlands and Islands event at 6.30 pm will feature three expert guest speakers and a discussion with local vets about vaccine availability, management considerations, and cost.
The guest speakers are Valentina Busin (Moredun); Jack Hearn (SRUC, EPIC); and Davide Pagnossin (University of Edinburgh, EPIC).
Valentina Busin, Head of the Veterinary Surveillance Unit, will focus on giving a broad introduction to Bluetongue virus BTV, diagnostics and vaccination.
Jack Hearn, an applied data scientist, will look at the midge as a vector for transmission of BTV.
Davide Pagnossin, a veterinary epidemiologist, will discuss the spread of BTV in the UK and implementation of restriction zones.
