A major announcement has come this evening (Tuesday October 13) from the Stornoway Sea Angling Club.
The club's committee are stating on their Facebook Page: "It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share some difficult news regarding the future of the club.
"Unfortunately, due to the ongoing financial difficulties we have been facing for a considerable amount of time, the committee has had to make the heartbreaking decision to cancel this year’s Christmas Party Nights.
"The reality is that the club has been struggling for a long time. With ever-increasing running costs and debts from previous years continuing to hang over us, we are now facing a very uncertain future.
"This is not something we ever imagined having to say publicly, but we feel it is important to be open and honest with everyone about the position we find ourselves in.
"The club has been part of our community for so many years. It holds countless memories, friendships and celebrations, and the thought that we could potentially lose it is absolutely devastating.
"The committee has been working incredibly hard behind the scenes to keep things going, but unfortunately, the financial pressures have reached a point where some very difficult decisions have had to be made.
"We want to make it absolutely clear that the club is NOT closing at this time. We remain OPEN and are operating as normal, and this will continue unless otherwise announced.
"We don’t know what the coming months will bring, but please be assured that we are doing everything we possibly can to give the club a future.
"To everyone who has supported us over the years, and especially those who continue to walk through our doors, thank you. Your support has never been more important than it is now.
"This club means so much to so many people, and we sincerely hope that with the continued support of our community, we can find a way through these difficult times.
"Our doors are still open, and we hope they will be for many years to come."
