A rare opportunity has come up to capture the Western Isles athletes' journey at the Faroe Islands 2027 – Betri Oyggjaleikir Island Games.
Western Isles Island Games Association (WIIGA) have announced that they are looking for a content creator to get involved in the heart of the action at an International-level sporting competition.
The Games will be taking place from 3 to 9 July next year, and as part of the team’s preparation for heading to the Faroes, they are searching for the right person to capture the magic of what is one of the biggest competitions for island athletes and bring that to life for followers back home.
The International Island Games happen every two years, with teams from 24 islands taking part and competing in 12 different sporting competitions.
The successful candidate will be out on the ground capturing moments and producing creative, shareable content, giving supporters at home a front row seat to all the action.
The role includes filming and photographing daily sporting activity, gathering behind-the-scenes moments, informal interviews and editing this material into platform-ready content.
Responsibilities will include producing short-form videos, reels and image sets, reactive content needs during competitions, and contributing creative ideas that help elevate engagement.
Michael Stone, WIIGA General Team Manager, said: “The world of social media moves so quickly and we want to make sure we are reaching everyone with the stories of the Games.
“We know there are so many family members, friends and fans at home who want to see what our athletes are doing when they are away so this role will give someone the opportunity to really capture the essence of the Games and raise our profile across the Western Isles and hopefully further afield.”
Hoping to expand their social media presence to TikTok, the team are looking for someone with an eye for trends and good, engaging content.
Michael said: “When we first started competing at the Games in 2005, printed media was really the only way people could access stories – but now things are available online immediately, so we want to be able to share what goes on at the Games with everyone as it happens.
“This role also gives us the opportunity to capture some of the behind-the-scenes moments with our athletes and gives us greater opportunities to showcase our sponsors and supporters too.”
“This is a very rare and exciting opportunity to join the team and experience what the Games are all about in an incredible part of the world – so I’m really looking forward to receiving the applications and bringing someone onboard.”
The position is unpaid but all travel and accommodation to and from the Faroe Islands, as well as food, will be provided for the successful candidate.
To apply for the role, submit a note of interest with a maximum of 500 words detailing why you are interested and what skills you would bring to the role.
Additionally, candidates are asked to submit three examples of content you have produced, specifically in video/reels for social media – with examples from sports/live action environments viewed favourably. Links to content will be acceptable in the application.
Applicants should demonstrate strong creative and technical skills, excellent organisation and the ability to work quickly and confidently in a fast-paced live event environment. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate their ability to take the initiative and recognise opportunities to capture the moments of the Games.
Experience in video and photo capture, strong editing skills, familiarity with social media trends and formats, and an understanding of platform best practice would be advantageous. Creativity, reliability, sound judgement and a collaborative mindset are essential, along with a genuine interest in sport and WIIGA.
Applicants must have been born in or currently residing in the Western Isles. The ability to speak Gàidhlig would also be beneficial.
Applicants must also be available to travel to and attend the Games with the team in the week of 2 to 10 July 2027
