Former service members, reservists, and their families can connect with local and national support services at the upcoming Stornoway Veterans Services Open Day.

Veterans Services are bringing the Open Day to Stornoway to provide information, guidance and welfare support to service leavers, veterans, their families and dependants while they are serving, as they transition to civilian life and beyond.

The Open Day will be taking place at the Army Reserve Centre at 50 Church Street, Stornoway.

The purpose of the Open Day is to provide free one-to-one holistic support with:

  • The transition from Service to civilian life.
  • Armed Forces pensions and compensation.
  • Medical discharge.
  • Support for those bereaved.
  • Department for Work and Pensions’ benefits.
  • Civilian Housing information.
  • Welfare needs that endure beyond Service.
  • Facilitate access to Other Government Departments (OGD) and the Third Sector.

Other organisations will be in attendance for the day to provide support across a range of issues. Responses so far include Forces Pension Society, Combat Stress, NHS (VISIN), Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Veterans Scotland, The Armed Forces Charity SSAFA, and the Scottish Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders (SACRO).
