The 2026 Commonwealth Games takes place in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026, marking the fourth time Scotland has hosted the multi-sport event and featuring around 3,000 athletes from 74 nations and territories.

Glasgow stepped in to save the Games after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew due to soaring costs. Glasgow, which last hosted the Games in 2014, agreed to host a streamlined 11-day event relying on existing venues and infrastructure.

The scaled-back Games model guaranteed no new athletes' village was needed, keeping the budget to around £150 million. This is primarily funded by a £100 million investment from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and cancellation funds from Victoria  with no major underwriting needed from taxpayers.
