The Uist and Barra Foodbank is set to close for the festive tomorrow afternoon (Wednesday, December 20) but has issued an urgent appeal for donations.
Foodbank spokesperson Janet Jevons Atkin emphasised that emergency food parcels will be available over Christmas and New Year.
However, she said: “We are very low in stock of everything, so any donations, please could they be dropped off to us ASAP, or even to our doors if no one is there as these are so needed just now?
“Thank you to everyone for their donations of gifts, food and monies! The support has been overwhelming, and we have managed to distribute around 60 Christmas hampers into the community.”
The Foodbank will be open today (10 am to 1 pm) and tomorrow (10 am to 3 pm) for last-minute requests.
Atkin added: “Thank you to the wonderful volunteers we have who have really worked together and played a vital part in making this year yet another success.
“Thank you to a number of people who have been delivering off-island for us.
“Thank you to the generosity from our community and afar who have supported us throughout the year and in previous years. We really couldn’t do what we do without you!”
The foodbank will close tomorrow afternoon and reopen on Monday, January 8.
