Firefighters in Stornoway are preparing to roll up their sleeves for a charity car wash this weekend.

On Saturday 9 July a crew from Stornoway will be on hand to make your car sparkle in exchange for a donation.

All funds raised will go towards WIAMH – the Western Isles Association for Mental Health.

As well as being a fun fundraising event, the firefighters want to share a very serious message about fire safety in the home.

Each year fire destroys lives, something firefighters see regularly and by taking some precautions this risk can be minimized.

"While your car is being pampered, you will have the chance book a free home fire safety visit with us.

"As part of our commitment to building a safer Scotland we offer everyone in Scotland a free home fire safety visit. We can also fit smoke alarms free of charge if you qualify.

"You can arrange a free home fire safety visit by calling SFRS on the freephone number 0800 0731 999 or by texting ‘check’ to 61611.

"You can also fill out a form at www.firescotland.gov.uk or contact your local community fire station.

Firefighter Andrew Maciver said: “All monies raised will provide a real boost to the charity and I wish to thank all the firefighters who are using their free time to take part in this worthwhile event.

“Hopefully, they will be kept busy on the day with plenty of cars to scrub clean.

“If you are in the area then feel free to drop in and say hello.”

The Charity Car Wash will be held between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 9 July.
