For the first, the cars of the Hebridean Rally took over the centre of Stornoway for their scrutineering tonight, before the first stages of the Rally, also taking place on a Friday for the first time.

The eighth rally – officially the Aries13 Hebridean Rally in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support – was greeted by crowds and calm, dry weather.  The formal process of scrutineering was taking place in front of the Town Hall entrance in Cromwell Street, with the cars queueing back up Francis Street amid excited onlookers.

The first stage is due to start in the Castle Grounds just before 8pm - spectators have to be in place in the defined spectator zones 30 minutes earlier at 7.35pm.
