A new state-of-the-art health hub will be officially opened in Tarbert on Tuesday.

The new health hub increases dental provision in Harris, with two dental surgeries now available – one of which will be used as a training facility.

There is also an additional multi-purpose clinical area for visiting services, such as physiotherapy and podiatry, and there is additional office space for community nursing teams.

The local GP Practice, which is attached to the Doctor’s House, has also been renovated as part of the project so that the building becomes one multi-purpose clinical hub. The garden area to the front of the building has been developed to provide off-street parking.

Dental services in Harris have relocated from Scalpay Dental Clinic to the new Harris Health Hub in Tarbert.

The process to convert the existing Doctor’s House in Tarbert into a ‘Harris Health Hub’ started in May 2014 and was completed on schedule.

NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson said: “I am absolutely delighted that the new North Harris Health Hub was completed on schedule, providing an excellent new facility for the local community. This project provided us with the opportunity to bring together a number of different services into the same ‘health hub’, which makes services more convenient and brings them closer to people’s own homes.”
