The Rotary Club of Stornoway is delighted to announce the launch of a new trust fund to assist Nicolson Institute pupils with mainland travel expenses.
The new Trust fund will be launched at The Nicolson Institute on Thursday, August 31st, at 4pm, and all are invited to attend.
The Friends of The Nicolson Trust (FOTN) will support pupils attending events or training on the mainland by providing some financial assistance towards travel costs – ensuring island students are not disadvantaged by their location in competition or advancing their skills or knowledge.

Rotarian Kenneth Macdonald said: “Over many years we have seen the benefit children derive from taking part in sporting and musical competitions at national level, the inspiration pupils get at attending arts events, and the broadening of their outlook when meeting others from different areas and cultures.
“It would be good to have a way everyone from the Island could contribute to a wider education for the young people of Lewis. The Rotary Club of Stornoway hope this new venture will be a way to help and advance the next generations of pupils from The Nicolson Institute.”
Funds for the new Friends of The Nicolson trust will be raised through the generosity of former Nicholson pupils, signed up to make a small annual donation to help the next generation.
Stornoway Rotary Club has appointed five local Trustees – Donald Martin (Chair), Zena Stewart, Donald John MacDonald, Agnes Rennie, and Jackie MacKay – who will manage and develop the Trust, awarding travel assistance to students in all disciplines enabling them to partake in mainland events from sports competitions to academic opportunities.
