Scalpay’s North Harbour Bistro is in the running for a national newspaper food award, after being put forward by members of the public.
The eatery’s been named as one of 10 finalists in the ‘hidden gem’ category of the Scotsman’s Food and Drink Awards. All 10 are described as among ‘Scotland’s best surprises’ and are now open once again to public online voting.
North Harbour Bistro specialises in fresh fish and seafood, especially landed fresh at the pier just outside the restaurant. The listing adds to a hatful of awards for the 2017 Scottish Food Awards islands restaurant of the year, which also won a gold medal winner for its fish last year.
This year chef George Lavery was 'chef of the year' and 'informal fine dining chef of the year' in the same awards.
North Harbour Bistro is the only Western Isles business to have made it into the finalists of the 13-category Scotsman awards, which also name chefs, food bloggers and Scottish spirit producers. The award finals are held on Tuesday September 4th in Edinburgh.
