This year-long course starts in September 2020 and offers a broad-based visual art introduction across Fine Art and Design based subjects. Aimed at both school leavers interested in building a portfolio for application on to art school and adult returners who are looking to learn new skills, the course is designed to suit a range of learners.
This course is based in the award-winning Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum and Arts Centre in North Uist. There are many opportunities for students to engage first-hand with exhibitions and artists talks, cultural events and a common, inclusive creative ethos. The centre is a creative hub for the island’s vibrant Arts community.
The Island of North Uist provides a stimulating environment for artists with a rich Gaelic heritage and a stunningly beautiful, wild and natural landscape. Full and part-time study options are available, with funding available for eligible students.
The BA (Hons) Fine Art offers students the opportunity to explore a wide range of disciplines including painting, digital and analogue photography, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and more. Teaching is from experienced practitioners and with input from a vibrant programme of visiting artists and lecturers.
The course supports students to develop an independent art practice within a strong community and international Arts Centre context, and prepares students to progress to exciting career opportunities within the Arts. Graduates have progressed to Post-Graduate study, developed thriving creative businesses, worked for national and international Arts organisations as well as careers as practicing artists, academics and art teachers.
