Do you want to study music or creative sound production in your home region, in any genre or style, and prepare yourself for the music industry of the future? If so, then this BA (Hons) Applied Music course has been designed for you.  

Studying traditional, Celtic, pop, jazz, classical, rock, and now creative sound production, this course will give you the opportunity to explore the culture of the Highlands and Islands. This flexible course combines online study with attendance at a series of residentials* which will help you apply your musical practice in a variety of professional contexts. You will study with top individuals in their fields, to develop skills in performance, education, recording, creative production, business, enterprise, networking and communication which will help you access opportunities nationally, in Europe, and the USA.

The BA Applied Music degree has a strong profile of graduate success and award-winning practitioners within the music industry, with many employed in performance, educational contexts, touring, creative sound production, research and music business. Applied Music achieved 100% in the National Student Survey 2019.

Full time and structured Part time options available. SAAS funding for fees is available for eligible part-time and full-time students.

Module topics include: Performance Practice, Sound production, recording, remote digital collaboration, Contextual studies, Music in Education and Community contexts, Ensemble, composition, music for film, music business, ensemble, sustainable creative practice. 

* Students are required to fund their own travel and accommodation to residencies. In addition, there is an additional annual residential fee charge of £150 payable at registration.
