 Murdo Maclean

Health, Social and
Child Studies Level 6

TMurdo has a long-held interest of working in the Care Sector with children and young people. After being furloughed from the Scottish Hydro, at the beginning of Lockdown, he was then made redundant. He felt this was his opportunity to pursue a change in career into youth work.

“No-one else is going to do it for you.
You are your own universe; you just have to get on and do it”

 Rachel Frieslick

NC Mechanical Engineering

Rachel Frieslick worked as a local baker but decided that she would fulfil her dream of becoming an engineer by joining the NC Mechanical Engineering course at Lews Castle College UHI. Having had no previous experience in engineering, Rachel commenced the course in Sept 2020 whilst continuing her work at the bakery.

"The NC Mechanical Engineering course was a fantastic step to get back into education, after 6 years out. The course provided a great insight into the engineering industry and gave me the confidence to successfully secure an OPITO Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship with Wood PLC. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in this industry."

 Morgan Macleod

BSc Computing

I chose to study computing because I had a genuine interest in the subject and have been using various forms of technology from a very young age. I was also aware of the vast career opportunities in the sector. I believe that a qualification in Computing is one of the most sought-after qualifications you can possess today. With new advances in technology every year there will be even more opportunities for Computing graduates..

"I would advise studying Computing because every subject you do is completely different which keeps the course exciting. I found it really fulfilling watching my skills develop over the years while studying at UHI. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I was able to use a variety of hardware and software. The lecturers made each module interesting and engaging.”
