Finding your ideal way to get fit is easier with the updated Lewis and Harris Sports Directory listing all the sports and recreation clubs, and their contact details, available on the islands.

And Callum Ian Macmillan, LCC UHI Business Development Officer, speaks on YouTube channel about the directory.

The publication of the glossy 16-page Directory came about following a need identified by the Lewis and Harris Sports Council, and was sponsored by Lews Castle College UHI.

“The purpose of creating the Directory is to enable people to find sports facilities and other useful details of clubs and organisation in Lewis and Harris with promote sport and leisure activities,” said Callum Iain.

“The benefit to the clubs and sports centres should be that participation should be increased. If it isn’t – it won’t be for lack of contact information!”

“One good example of what is possible was our French Engineering students who made contact and played for the Stornoway Rugby Team; one of them was voted ‘Player of the Year’.

“Every new student to Lews Castle College UHI will receive a Directory when they arrive to study. It’s one of the best things I’ve worked on and I’m passionate about now making it as effective as possible.”

To be effective, a total of 3,000 Directories have been printed and distributed in a wide range of outlets throughout Lewis and Harris – including sports centres, schools, GP and dental surgeries, island ferry terminals and airports, hotels and B&Bs, social clubs, coffee shops, bars and hairdressers.  It is also available to read here - Lewis and Harris Sports Directory !

A real collaborative effort, alongside the support of Lews Castle College UHI (which provided funding to cover printing costs), the Directory was produced by Education & Children Services (Sport & Health) Department; the Sports Development Service of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar; Lewis and Harris Sports Council, and NHS Western Isles.
