A duo of musicians who graduated from Lews Castle College’s HNC and BA music courses in Uist are in the running for ‘Album of the Year’ at the MG Alba Trad Music Awards in December.

Christian Gamauf and Jamie MacDonald say: “We're absolutely over the moon to hear news today that our CD 'The Pipe Slang' has made the long list for album of the year at the ScotsTradMusicAwards!

Lews Castle College UHI welcomed its first cohort of 20 students on the newly developed Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Quality Improvement at the UHI PGT Induction Weekend, held in early September at the Centre for Health Science in Inverness. The new award is a collaboration between Lews Castle College UHI and NHS Highland, through the Highlands and Islands Improvement Institute (HIᵌ).

Location is no longer a barrier to learning more about the Gaelic-speaking Highlands and Islands of Scotland. From September 2018, UHI is offering international delivery of a selection of modules from the BA (Hons) Gaelic Scotland programme, for which Lews Castle College is the lead partner.

These include History modules on The Gaelic World, as well as Traditional Culture modules such as Gaelic Story and Song, Folklore, Traditional Culture, and Traditional Culture in the 21st Century.

Each of these modules is delivered wholly online, with online chat tutorials. Cost per module is £1020 GBP. For more information, contact Dr. Anne Frater, Programme Leader, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
