The festive season got off to a strong start this weekend for staff, students, and alumni of Lews Castle College UHI’s music courses in Benbecula, who won multiple awards at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards on Saturday (1st December).

The MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards are a highlight of Scotland’s musical calendar, and this year musicians from Lews Castle College UHI are in the running for multiple awards, which will be announced in a live event in Perth on 1st December.

Benbecula-based music lecturer and programme leader for BA Applied Music, Anna-Wendy Stevenson has been working across the University of the Highlands and Islands as mentor and mentee to encourage fellow staff members across the network to engage in the process for recognition of their work through the UHI’s ALPINE programme.

Anna-Wendy says: ‘The Alpine framework gave me a great opportunity to reflect on and share my practice and feel recognised at a national level for the work leading a team across the network and developing new curriculum.
