A broken power line at Bernera road end was responsible for putting nearly 400 Uig homes in the dark just before 2pm today (Monday January 21st).

A spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said the line was to be replaced, with engineering teams already on site now (3.20pm) and working to fix the problem.

The high winds are thought to have caused the broken line, with 384 properties across the whole of the Uig district, from Gisla westwards, affected.

SSEN said that engineers expect to have power restored by 6pm tonight at the latest, and apologise for the inconvenience to customers.
