To celebrate Book Week Scotland this year, Western Isles Libraries has invited the award-winning author, Ann Cleeves, to do a talk at two of libraries - in Liniclate and Stornoway, on 21 and 22 November.
Ann is the creator of two famous detectives; Vera and Jimmy Perez, and both series have been televised to much acclaim. This year Ann is also celebrating the publication of her 30th book in 30 years with Cold Earth, the latest in her Shetland series of crime books.
And there's more for her to celebrate: TV's Shetland crime drama, which has carried off two Scottish Baftas: when the winners of this year's awards were revealed, Shetland took the prize in two of the four categories for which it was in the running. Shetland itself won best television drama, and Douglas Henshall, who plays detective inspector Jimmy Perez, was named best television actor. Director Jan Matthys (best director film/television) and Gaby Chiappe (best writer film/television) were also nominated.
Book Week Scotland is a week-long celebration of books and reading. People of all ages and walks of life will come together in libraries, schools, community venues and workplaces to share and enjoy books and reading. They will be joined in this celebration by Scotland’s authors, poets, playwrights, storytellers and illustrators to bring a packed programme of events and projects to life.
