This evening (Thursday July 11th) has started with a one-two-three of medals for Western Isles athletes at the Natwest Island Games in Gibraltar  - and appropriately two out of three have come in the triple-jump.

Mary Macleod jumped a silver medal distance of 11.14m tonight, with Heather Marie Mackinnon close behind her for the bronze with 11.10m.

The icing on the cake was yet another gold medal for Kara Hanlon in the pool, this time in the women’s individual 100m medley.

The new tally of four gold, two silver and two bronze medals means that the Western Isles has now leap-frogged over Menorca in the medal table and sits in 11th place, with a full day of competition still to go.
