      Uist, Barra and Benbecula News

The Comhairle Leader has joined home care staff in encouraging people to attend Uist recruitment events being held on Tuesday (October 6).

Councillor Paul Steele is appealing for a good turnout at Daliburgh Community Hall, and the Trianaid Taigh Ceilidh are designed to help Comhairle nan Eilean Siar recruit care staff to help people in Uist and Benbecula continue to live in their own homes.

Said Cllr Steele: “This is a chance to take up an extremely rewarding role that is highly valued by the recipients of the service and the wider community. The Home Care service is high performing and makes a hugely positive impact on the lives of individuals in our communities.

“If you want to join the team, come along to the Comhairle’s recruitment event for a chance to speak to current carers and receive application support and advice.”

The recruitment events are from 9:30 am to 11:30 am in Daliburgh Community Hall and from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm in Trianaid Taigh Ceilidh.

The events will give people a chance to chat to current Home Care staff about the job and receive application and interview support from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s HR and Employability teams.

Members of the Home Care and Reablement team have spoken about their roles to encourage others to attend the event and join the home care team.

Leah Dyde said: “I find being a carer rewarding and have always enjoyed meeting and caring for new people; it is a joy getting to know each service user and their families as well as carers.”

Stacey Macrury added: “Being a Homecare worker does not feel like a job. It is a privilege to get to know all the service users and help to keep them independent and happy while remaining in their own home.”
