Local businesses are helping support an on-campus Breakfast Club for UHI North, West and Hebrides students.

A free breakfast is being provided to students at the Stornoway campus thanks to support form Tesco, the Co-op, Calmax Construction Ltd and Grillburger Frozen Foods Ltd.

The funding is being used to provide students in Stornoway, and some other campuses, with free easy access to breakfast essentials including porridge pots, cereal bars, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and toast.

The Breakfast Club, run by UHI North, West and Hebrides Student Services, is designed to make breakfast simple and accessible for students.

Students have given their feedback to the Breakfast Club. One student said: “Breakfast Club is really good knowing that when I come to college, I can get something to eat.”

A Professional Cookery student said the initiative also helps reduce the financial and time pressure of college life, adding: “Having access to these facilities really helps me save both money and time while I am in college. It also makes it easier for me to stay on campus throughout the day without worrying about going elsewhere for meals.”

Another student said: “These breakfasts are so helpful, if I've missed breakfast for whatever reason I know that I can grab something quickly before I head to class – such a good idea."

The Breakfast Club will be available throughout the year, with porridge pots and cereal bars available at the HISA Base between 8.30am and 10.30am.

The college is extremely grateful to the local businesses for their support, which is helping provide practical, everyday assistance to students.

The team at UHI North, West and Hebrides also recognise how community funding can make a tangible difference to student life – helping students fuel their mornings, focus on their studies and build connections with others.
