The Harris Tweed Isle of Harris shop in Inverness is to close and could shut its doors for the final time as early as October.

Their Harris-based outlets in Tarbert and Drinishader, as well as their online store, will remain unaffected by the Inverness closure and will continue to operate from their island shops.

The Inverness building, described by one news outlet as “prominent fixture on Inglis Street”, has been listed as “to let” through UK property consultants firm Graham & Sibbald, who have said a new tenant could potentially start their lease as early as October this year.

The current 10-year lease does not officially end until March 2027.

Annabel Campbell, niece of Harris Tweed Isle of Harris business owner Catherine Campbell, has been in charge of running the building at 6-8 Inglis Street.

It has not been confirmed whether the island-founded shop will be moving location or leaving Inverness altogether. Harris Tweed Hebrides owner Catherine Campbell told welovestornoway.com that the closure comes from the decision to end their lease in the premises.

The Campbell family has been part of the heritage of Harris Tweed on the Isle of Harris for centuries.

Today, Catherine and Annabel are said to be continuing that family legacy and keeping its traditions alive while introducing the story and craftsmanship behind it to a wider audience.
