Two people have been arrested and charged after controlled drugs with an estimated street value of up to £67,500 were seized by officers in Tarbert.

Around 2.25pm yesterday (Monday, 23 March) officers boarded a ferry at the terminal on Pier Road, Tarbert, where they recovered the drugs, believed to be cocaine, and a three-figure sum of cash.

A 48-year-old man, and a woman aged 37, have been arrested and charged following the find. They have been released on an Undertaking to appear at Stornoway Sheriff Court at a later date. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Detective Inspector Andy Bilton said: “This recovery again highlights our ongoing commitment to tackle, detect and disrupt drug-related offences across the Western Isles.

“Officers were assisted by PD Viv, our Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP) funded police dog, and her handler PC Calum Iain Macdonald.

"Their specialist skills played a key role in the recovery.

“Again, we would urge anyone who has information about drug supply or dealing on the islands, to contact police.

"It is only by working together that we can combat this evil trade.”
