A small charity based on the Isle of Lewis is entering its 16th year with a remarkable achievement. The Leanne Fund now begins this next chapter knowing it can support every child born with Cystic Fibrosis across Scotland.

What started around a family kitchen table as a deeply personal hope, has grown into a national source of support, helping families feel supported wherever they live and ensuring no one faces the journey alone.

This anniversary follows an incredible year for the charity, which included anniversary celebrations, expanded national reach and continued development of services shaped around the real and changing needs of the Cystic Fibrosis community.

Today, a team of three staff based in Stornoway supports families across Scotland, providing a unique range of practical, emotional and financial services designed to ease the everyday realities of living with Cystic Fibrosis.

The charity’s support reaches into many areas of family life, including help with household costs and supermarket vouchers, access to sports and fitness opportunities that help maintain lung health, hospital care packages, moving-home support for young people taking steps into independent living, counselling for children and families, and helping to create special moments and lasting memories together.

Alongside this, the charity provides its Over the Rainbow service, offering compassionate support to families facing the most difficult stages of the Cystic Fibrosis journey. This support reflects the charity’s commitment to walking alongside families at every stage of their illness.

Chrisetta Mitchell, Development Manager at The Leanne Fund, said: “Reaching our 16th anniversary is incredibly special. Driven by a vision that no family affected by Cystic Fibrosis should face it alone, the charity now walks alongside families right across Scotland.

"We are so grateful to every fundraiser, donor, volunteer, funder, supporter and the NHS Cystic Fibrosis teams who help us reach families across the country. Their kindness and partnership allow us to continue making sure support is there when it is needed most for families affected by Cystic Fibrosis."

As the charity celebrates this anniversary, it is thanking the many individuals, communities and organisations who have supported its work over the past 16 years and helped make a lasting difference to families across Scotland. The charity hopes everyone who has been part of the journey will continue to stand alongside them in the years ahead, helping ensure families across the country can continue to receive support when it is needed most.
