Independent Kenny Macleod has been elected as councillor in the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Na Hearadh by-election by a convincing margin.

The Scalpay man polled 878 votes, while Steven William Welsh of the Scottish Family Party received 53 votes. Eleven voting papers were rejected.

The turnout for the by-election was 62.7% with 942 votes returned of a possible 1502. 

Kenny Macleod replaces Grant Fulton, who stepped down in May.
