This year’s Grimsay Boatfest will go ahead next month without its traditional boat parade due to a lack of interest.

Breaking the news yesterday (Tue, May 21), Grimsay Community Association said: “We have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the Grimsay Boat Parade, which was planned for 2.45 pm on Saturday, June 1. Sadly, insufficient boats were able to participate.  We are very sorry for the disappointment this will cause.”

However, the rest of the boat festival programme is going ahead as planned. The festival celebrates Grimsay’s 150-year-old boat-building tradition.

The family fun day starts at 11.30 am at the Ceann na h-Àirigh & Grimsay Boat Museum and rounds off with an evening ceilidh, which is now fully booked.
