Age and guile proved insufficient as the Southend FC old-timers were thumped 6-0 by the current squad in a charity match last night (Tuesday, April 16).

Over 100 spectators cheered on the action at Daliburgh School, and the fundraiser netted “an astonishing £5,543.”

The match was live-streamed with the help of Eriskay FC for those unable to attend in person. And with donations still coming in online, the final total will be announced soon.

The charity match was in aid of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Schiehallion Ward and in support of young fan Layla, who, along with parents Neil John and Shona, selected the charity.
