Scalpay Community Association has called an extraordinary general meeting to consider transferring the existing charity to a new charity, created as a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation.

A SCIO is a legal form unique to Scottish charities and is able to enter into contracts, employ staff, incur debts, own property, sue and be sued.  It also provides a high degree of protection against liability.

The meeting open to all Scalpay residents is scheduled for next Tuesday (April 16) at 7.30 pm.

The meeting will also provide updates on current plans and how the community association has taken on board the suggestions offered at the AGM.

A spokesperson said: “We have been working away behind the scenes, and we look forward to updating the community on our progress to date.”
