The MV Hebrides, currently in Liverpool for its annual refit, has reportedly been pressed into service as a temporary Mersey ferry.

The CalMac vessel stepped into the breach after the iconic ‘ferry across the Mersey’ broke down.

Liverpool City Council hired the CalMac ferry as a stopgap on the Birkenhead to Liverpool crossing while the city’s ferry was getting fixed. The breakdown occurred while one lane of the Mersey Tunnel was closed for line painting.

The MV Alfred is currently standing in for the MV Hebrides on the Uig-Tarbert-Lochmaddy run while it is off-station.
