Despite the chill factor and general dreichness, the second race meet in the Uist and Barra Cross Country Series yesterday (Saturday, January 20) was declared a “great day of running”.

Despite the weather, there was a good turnout, including a contingent from the South Uist & Eriskay Amateur Athletics Club and a runner from Barra who made it across.

Afterwards, the organisers North Uist Amateur Athletics Club, commented: “Great to see the ever-increasing numbers taking part to support our local events.

“The volunteers- BRILLIANT!!! Thank you all so much for your efforts. See you all in three weeks for the final run in the series.”

Barra Running Club had intended to compete but cancelled due to uncertainty about the CalMac ferry operating the return leg due to the weather forecast.

Race Three of the cross-country series takes place on Saturday, February 10.
