A major New Year celebration event took place at the North Lochs Community centre in Leurbost on Friday (December 29).

This also marked the opening of the recently upgraded kitchen facilities.

Organisations were thanked for their support in funding the development. Representatives of the Muaitheabal Community Windfarm Trust said they were delighted to have presented their cheque for £35,000 funding towards the upgrading of the kitchens. "What a beautiful job by everyone concerned," they stated.

In the photograph above there's Iain Macaskill, chairman and Sarah Macdonald vice chair of the community association, along with with Iain Maciver and Angus McDowall who are chair and vice chair respectively of Muaitheabhal Community Wind Farm Trust.

"We enjoyed a lovely meal from the new kitchen followed by a lively ceilidh attended by many youngsters from the community which was a joy to see."

Also delighted to have presented a cheque for £10,000 were Western Isles Development Trust.

In the photograph above are Donnie Morrison, chair of WIDT, again with Iain Macaskill and Sarah Macdonald of the Community Association.

Donnie said: "We were served a lovely meal prepared in the new kitchen for around 50 people and this was followed by a lively cèilidh attended by many youngsters from the community. This surely makes it all worthwhile for all those who have put so much effort into this excellent refurbishment."
