A new Glasgow City Mission Appeal to help those who are homeless in Glasgow has begun in the Stornoway Library.

Organised by the Stornoway High Free Church, the appeal started today (Friday December 1) at 2pm, taking financial or voucher donations through the afternoon.

The appeal will continue into tomorrow. Donations can also be made via the library's community room on Saturday between 11am and 3.30pm.

Donated vouchers can be from:

  • Boots
  • Superdrug
  • Coop
  • Tesco
  • Argos
  • Matalan
  • Costa Coffee
  • Starbucks
  • TK Maxx
  • Primark

Glasgow has the highest amount of homeless households in Scotland: 5,701 according to official figures for 2021-2022. This means that despite being home to 12 per cent of Scotland's total population, it has 20 per cent of Scotland's homeless population.

A member of the Glasgow City Mission Appeal said: "We do a lot for other locations, but our own people need support as well. You can see that in foodbanks that are starting up throughout the nation.

"A lot of islanders are in Glasgow.

"Last year we raised over £2000, but every little helps."
