Demand is so high for space in the Tong community polycrub that lots are to be drawn to decide who secures a growing bed.

Such has been the level of interest that the Tong Recreation Association have decided that half the polycrub be reserved for community groups, like the Cuppa & Ceilidh Group, and the other half will be for annual “hire” by locals.

Revealing their predicament, Kathryn Lamont Smith of Tong Recreation Association said: “We decided that the fairest way to do this is to ask everyone who is interested in a bed to let us know, and we will draw names from a hat.”

The draw will be made at the end of June, with the annual rental period commencing in October. However, those securing a bed in the polycrub will get three months free this year. The annual maintenance fee is £10, and the bed comes filled with top-grade soil and compost.
