Islands MP Angus MacNeil delivered a speech on Amendment 7 during yesterday evening's parliamentary debate
UK MPs will now have a legal guarantee of a vote on the final Brexit deal struck with Brussels after a parliamentary debate – in which Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil delivered a speech – voted 309 to 305 on Amendment 7 yesterday.
The amendment now passed will ensure that MPs have a legal guarantee of a vote on the final Brexit deal struck.
“The actions of this Tory Government is akin to setting sail on the Titanic and refusing to take a lifeboat,” said Mr MacNeil. “This is a Laurel and Hardy Brexit – it is a fine mess and all due to vanity.”
He continued: “I was pleased to have had the opportunity to speak on Amendment 7 at Westminster yesterday evening and to vote for the amendement which will now give MPs a meaningful vote on the Brexit deal.
“Ultimately, like going to court over Article 50, this was a stupid fight for the Government to get into,” Mr MacNeil commented.
“They should simply have accepted it and not embarrassed themselves with last night’s defeat; it was needless but such is the control freakery of Theresa May’s government that these things happen from time to time.”
