Loganair has pledged to aid passengers facing Christmas flight concerns around the impact of storms with free rebooking to earlier flights where seats are available.
They say:" The team at Loganair - Scotland's Airline - understands that journeys around Christmas assume an especial importance for you and every single one of our customers.
"We therefore keep a watchful eye on anything that could cause disruption to your journey and the specialised Met Office aviation weather forecasts for Friday 23 and Saturday 24 December are suggesting that some particularly strong winds could prevail throughout Scotland. If the forecasts materialise, it may cause disruption to our flights.
"Although there's plenty of time between now and then for the weather forecasts to change or for the weather fronts bringing these strong winds to miss Scotland completely, we want to offer you as much peace of mind as we can for your important Christmas journey.
"If you hold a reservation on a Flybe flight operated by Loganair on 23 or 24 December within Scotland, you can transfer your booking to any Loganair flight on the same route departing earlier.
"The change will be free of charge - we will waive any change fee payable, and won't charge the usual difference in fare between your original flight and the earlier flight on which you'd like to travel.
"In summary, if there is a seat available on an earlier flight, you can transfer your booking from 23 or 24 December to that available flight without any charge on a first-come, first-served basis.
"We're adding extra seats on our flights from Glasgow to Stornoway and Benbecula on Thursday 22 December to help meet expected demand and have seats available on most other routes."
They say: "If you can't change your travel plans, please rest assured that we'll do everything that we safely can do to ensure that the flight on which you're booked takes place on-time and with you, your baggage and your fellow customers aboard.
"We will commit to operating every flight unless we're unable to do so for safety reasons. That said, based on the information available to us, we felt that it was important to share this advance weather forecast with you, and to provide you with as much flexibility as we can to guarantee your important Christmas travel plans.
"If you'd like to change a Flybe flight with Loganair on 23 or 24 December for which you already hold a reservation to travel on the same route on an earlier flight, please check seat availability on your desired alternative at www.flybe.com by looking to see if we still have seats available on flights on preceding days, then give us a call on 0344 800 2855 with your booking reference handy so that we can confirm your booking on your preferred alternative flight.
"Unfortunately, we can’t change any connecting flights you may have booked with other airlines.
"We'll continue to monitor the Met Office forecasts and provide updated travel information at www.loganair.co.uk. Please rest assured that our first priority is to complete your journey safely, and as close to your scheduled travel time as conditions will possibly allow."
They add that Loganair flights will be unaffected by strike action taking place at UK airports by staff members of ground handling company Swissport – our flights are handled by a different ground handling agent, Menzies Aviation. But they warn: "If you have a connecting flight with another airline, please do check that airline’s travel advice for the latest information."
