As the coronavirus responses develop, we are aware that communities throughout the Western Isles are trying to gather together to coordinate support for people and businesses throughout their communities.
  • There are people with services and ideas to offer.
  • There are people who need them.
  • There are great ideas in one area - but maybe no one has thought of that in another area.
Here in the family - between our websites with around 37,000 users a month and our social media presence - we can offer the biggest chance for people to exchange information and develop support.
Tell us what you are doing…and we can tell everyone else.
Because we run our own website, we can develop it to adapt to the needs of the communities we serve.
Start sending us the information about your plans…and we will do our best to tell everyone else who needs to know.
And - a gentle reminder - remember Facebook is a giant American corporation that has no base in the Islands, whereas is completely locally based, employing local people.

Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn have brought together volunteers to co-ordinate the setting up of Whatsapp groups for each village on the estate. The Whatsapp groups will allow residents to stay in touch, offer support, seek support and generally stay connected. Volunteers are visiting and calling homes to gather phone numbers.

If no one has reached your house yet and you would like to be added to the Whatsapp group for your village, please message 07469 189449 and specify your name and village.  We understand that many people do not have a mobile phone or Whatsapp, however, those that can seek to ensure they are included in communications.

The group is for everyone from your village, so please be mindful of not posting lots of details. Just ask for help and someone in the group will get in touch for the specifics of your request.  This is basically just neighbours wanting to help each other out and spread a little kindness during a challenging time. This is not a service to replace emergency services or other support services, but as a community we want you to know that someone will be around to help with some of the smaller things. Staying connected is critical and we all just want to spread a little kindness and to let you know you matter!
