A brief but intense lightning storm cut power to everyone in Lewis and Harris for a short period this morning.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks local staff said that lightning strikes led to the cut, a few minutes long, at around 8.30am today.

The power outage left its mark on businesses and households, with internet and other electrical systems tripped by the interruption.

Meanwhile 102 customers in properties on the Lewis and Harris border, between Ardvourlie and Arivruaich have been without power since the strikes, with engineers now on their way to find and repair the fault. Power is expected to be restored by 5pm.

The Braighe has now fully re-opened after a closure and a period on a convoy system this morning as waves flung debris over the carriageway.
