A construction kit to create a detailed model of MV Loch Seaforth went on sale this week (Wednesday March 13th) via CalMac’s new online shop.
The 37cm long model is built using 310 plastic construction bricks and has already been a hit with ferry passengers, since it appeared in onboard shops at the beginning of March. It’s not a detail-perfect collectors’ replica, but it does have realistic features such as lifeboats and a helipad on the top deck.
The limited-edition model was commissioned from Polish toy company COBI after customer demand in shops on board some of CalMac’s larger ferries.
A CalMac spokesperson said the idea was hatched when a child tried to design a model for another well-known toy company but couldn’t get enough support to have the toy made.
The spokesperson said: “We wanted to respond to customer demand and provide something people really seem to want to buy when they travel with us. It would obviously be difficult to invest in developing a model of every one of our ships, so we chose the Loch Seaforth as one of the newest vessels in our fleet, with an interesting shape and design.
“It’s a real toy designed for everyone from aged six upwards – we can personally testify it’s great fun to put together and we hope it will capture people’s hearts as a reminder of their journey to Stornoway and the Outer Hebrides.”

The model costs £29.99 and is available online and in some of the larger CalMac onboard shops.
