Stormy weather and ferry cancellations are affecting tonight’s Iolaire memorial concert in Stornoway.
Castlebay School from Barra has had to pull out of the event, tweeting: “So disappointed we won’t make it, hope it all goes well.”
Around 1,000 people are expected to be at or involved in the fully-booked event tonight - there will be a collection on the door to raise funds for the development of Gaelic and Cultural activities within The Nicolson Institute.
The event – at 7:30pm tonight (Friday December 14th) at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais – is the culmination of the Dìleab project in which schools across the Western Isles have been engaged during 2018.
Pupils from The Nicolson Institute and other island schools and a host of local musicians will mark the centenary of the Iolaire tragedy through music, drama, dance and song.
A 15-strong group of singers, musicians and dancers from Castlebay School had been planning to attend – along with the Sgoil Lionacleit Pipe Band and a choir from Sir E Scott School in Tarbert.
The event forms part of the Comhairle's engagement Year of the Young Person and is the Nicolson's opportunity to commemorate the Iolaire tragedy which will see its 100th anniversary on January 1, 2019.
