A special remembrance poppy pin designed to commemorate the centenary of the Iolaire disaster is to go on on sale on Monday October 1st.
The commemorative Iolaire poppy pins have been produced by Poppy Scotland and will cost £3 each. All proceeds raised will go towards costs related to the Iolaire commemorative events which are being opened to the public at no cost to them.
The Iolaire Working Group said yesterday (Friday September 21st) that pins would be available from Stornoway Library, theTown Hall, Comhairle Offices on Sandwick Road and Comhairle Offices in Tarbert, from Monday October 1st.
Dolina Macleod of the Iolaire Working Group, said: “We are pleased to have worked in partnership with Poppy Scotland to give people the opportunity to purchase these specially made Iolaire poppy pins.
"The Working Group felt that it was particularly poignant that these be made available to buy in advance of Armistice Day in November and, of course, the centenary of the Iolaire tragedy at the end of this year.”
