Tom Clowes has revealed that the fundraising penny-farthing bike ride along the Hebridean Way has raised almost £15,000.

And the running total was a pleasant birthday surprise for Tom as he relaxed at home with his family. And a penny farthing-themed birthday cake.

Tom posted online: “Thank you to all those who supported us on the Hebridean Way in the Outer Hebrides at the end of May. What an incredible experience it was for us in so many ways. We experienced kindness and generosity amongst the most beautiful surroundings.

“So far, we have raised a total of £14,922.20, which includes gift aid - so only £77.80 short of £15,000! Just incredible. Thank you so much to you all for your support.”

Thanking the many islanders who had helped him raise money for the Stroke Association, Tom expressed gratitude for his cycling buddies, Woody and Simon, who had carried all the gear and made the fundraising effort possible.

The online appeal is still live for last-minute donations.

Tom told his online audience: “If you have never been to the Western Isles, make sure you put it on your list. It is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.”
