Carnach House, the former Post Office that was a key location featured in the hit 1949 Ealing Studios comedy, Whisky Galore, is up for sale.

The vendor of the two-bedroom end-of-terrace house is looking for offers over £150,000.

The property includes the Old Post Office downstairs, an upstairs apartment, and the remains of the substantial 19th-century stone-built original Barra School building at the rear.

According to the sales description, Carnach House is “one of the most historic properties on Barra.”

The sales pitch continues: “The ground floor of Carnach House, previously the Old Post Office, has been sensitively renovated, retaining the original post office counter and phone box. It remains a large open space offering a range of development possibilities to the new owner, as music/arts venue, commercial enterprise, or extension to the living space, subject to the necessary consents.”

The sale is being handled by estate agents, Bell Ingram of Beauly.
