According to the Comhairle, the new collection dates commencing on Monday are being introduced to improve the quantity and quality of recycled materials collected and to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
A Comhairle spokesperson said: “These changes will ensure that the Comhairle is compliant with the Scottish Household Recycling Charter and Code of Practice, and help improve recycling rates, and allow us to play our part in reaching Scotland’s ambitious climate targets.”
Due to the new collection routes, the Comhairle has tried to keep the same collections days as before, wherever possible, to ensure a smooth transition to the three weekly collections.
The rethink has also enabled the Comhairle to make some minor route changes to maximise the efficiency of the new collection service. The changes have been made to accommodate the new recycling collections introduced into areas not previously receiving kerbside mixed recycling and glass collections.
The new routes and timetables are here.
However, the Comhairle warn that due to the scale of the collection regime, some additional changes may prove necessary to maximise capacity and service efficiency. If further tweaks are required to the collection service, these will be publicised before being implemented.
