The 99-mile charity swimming marathon was completed yesterday afternoon (Monday, March 27) and has smashed its fundraising target by more than three times.
The pool’s lifeguards and a small army of volunteer swimmers glided to the finish line at 5 30pm, having achieved a feat that is being loudly applauded locally.
The swimathon was in aid of the Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative.
At the time of writing, they are in line to receive over £3,000 from the online crowdfunding appeal alone.
However, cash from the collections tins throughout the Uist has still to be collected and counted.
Among the many congratulating the swimmers was Morag Mackinnon, who commented on their Facebook page last night: “Absolutely brilliant, a huge congratulations to everyone who took part - what a team!”
The crowdfunder appeal is open for another 11 days.
