The rich musical heritage of Barra is to be celebrated next week at a concert featuring Gaelic singer Claire Frances MacNeil and music students from Sabhal Mor Ostaig.
The Saturday, March 25 concert has been inspired by recordings hosted by the Scottish online audio archive Tobar an Dualchais ~ Kist o Riches.
Claire Frances, an island native, selected Barra songs from their extensive back catalogue and has been teaching them to pupils at Castlebay Community School.
Among the selections are those sung by Barra tradition-bearers such as Annie Johnston, Calum Johnston, Mary Morrison, Nan MacKinnon and Captain Donald Joseph MacKinnon.
Meanwhile, the Sabhal Mor Ostaig students have also been mining the archive for their setlist. Some local singers have also agreed to perform.
Admission at the venue, Castlebay Community School, is £9 at the door, with concessions of £7 for students and senior citizens and £5 for children over 12 if not performing.
This evening is funded by Creative Scotland through the Maoin nan Ealan Gàidhlig fund and supported by Fèisean nan Gàidheal.
