Food and drink of yesteryear is the theme for Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath’s upcoming Cupan aig Cairinis event.

The afternoon “Biadh agus deoch” tea in Taigh Chearsabhagh is being held between 2 pm and 4 pm on Tuesday, March 21.

Says the historical society: “Come and join us for a cuppa and chat about food and drink and a look at photos from our archive.

“We will be joined for a short while by pupils from Sgoil Uibhist a Tuath.”

Comann Eachdraidh Uibhist a Tuath was founded in 1987. Over the decades, it has compiled a collection of objects, photographs and sound archives that vividly reflect the social history of North Uist.

The historical society is responsible for organising and curating heritage-related activities at Taigh Chearsabhagh, primarily the museum’s main annual exhibition and temporary displays in Gallery 2.

The community collection and archive comprises over 1,000 artefacts representing the heritage and culture of North Uist communities from the late 19th century through to the end of the 20th century.

Meanwhile, their photographic collection extends to approximately 6,000 prints and transparencies.
