A WhatsApp group calling itself North Uist Marauding Deer has been launched to tackle nuisance deer on the island.

The group has been formed to be the first point of contact for those experiencing deer issues, specifically on agricultural land, roads, and in school playgrounds. Problem deer in gardens, it is pointed out, are the householder’s responsibility.

When the group is notified by text on 07940 177491, they will “endeavour to respond as soon as someone is available to take appropriate action.”

According to Facebook user Aimee Bev, the group comprises representatives from landholdings across North Uist and holds meetings attended by representatives from NatureScot, the Scottish Crofting Federation, and the police.
