Benbecula Community Council has issued an appeal for local volunteers to represent the island on the Outer Hebrides Youth Local Action Group.

The volunteer opportunity is open to anyone between 16 and 30 in Benbecula.

Issuing an appeal via Facebook, the community council said: “We desperately need representation from Benbecula; last year, there were zero young people in our group and zero applications from Benbecula, and we would welcome anyone interested to get in touch.

“The commitment level is low, only a few sessions a year, but you will be part of a unique group that is designed to deliver funding to youth groups and individuals.”

The local action group has launched an islands-wide recruitment drive to join what they call “the most exciting, most empowered youth group in the Western Isles.”

The group manages the Youth Local Action Group fund for youth groups, projects and individuals. Last year, the fund awarded £5000 to a wide range of local youth groups and individuals.
