A contingent from Cape Breton has revealed they are on their way to June’s Barra Homecoming 2023.
A group from Cape Breton headed by Randy Pointkoski from Grand Narrows, Nova Scotia, will be on Barra for the celebrations between Sunday, June 4 and Friday, June 9.
While there, the “Central Cape Breton Contingency” is planning to hold a Sunset Happy Hour on Tuesday, June 6. The venue has yet to be determined, but they are looking for a couple of picinic tables to hold their Barra shindig.
The Homecoming, being staged by Barra and Vatersay Heritage Society, is particularly poignant as the event marks the centenary of the SS Marloch emigrants leaving for new lives in Canada.
The picture shows island emigrants leaving Barra to travel to Canada on the Canadian Pacific Line’s SS Marloch in 1923.
